Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Sidekick collects, what it does not, and how your data flows through the product. Plain English first; the lawyer-friendly version is in the Terms.

1. Who we are

Sidekick is built and operated by Script Sidekick ("Script Sidekick", "we", "us"). Questions about this policy can go through our .

2. The short version

  • We do not run a server that stores your API keys or your prompts. Both stay on your machine or go directly to the AI provider you chose.
  • We do not upload your After Effects project, footage, or renders.
  • We may collect minimal, anonymous usage telemetry to keep the product working. You can opt out in Settings.
  • Our marketing website may use a privacy-friendly analytics provider to understand traffic.

3. What Sidekick stores on your machine

The Sidekick CEP panel stores the following locally, in the panel's localStorage and in your After Effects Scripts folder:

  • API keys for the AI providers you have connected (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google). Keys are lightly obfuscated but are not encrypted. They never leave your machine except to call the provider you selected.
  • Settings like default provider, default model, and UI preferences.
  • Saved scriptlets and scripts in your standard AE Scripts folder.
  • Recent prompt history for the chat panel, only on your device.

4. What Sidekick sends to AI providers

When you submit a prompt, the panel sends two things directly to the AI provider you selected:

  • Your prompt text.
  • A structured summary of your current selection: layer names, property names, and minimal type information Sidekick needs for the AI to generate correct code.

We do not send your .aep file, your footage, your renders, or anything else from your project. We do not relay this traffic through our servers; the request goes from your machine to the provider over HTTPS.

5. Telemetry

Sidekick may collect anonymous, aggregated usage signals to improve the product. These do not include your prompts, your AI responses, or any content from your AE projects. Where we do collect telemetry, you can disable it in Settings > Privacy.

6. Marketing website

The marketing site at sidekick-ae.com may use a privacy-friendly analytics provider to count visits and measure conversion. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request path) may be retained for a short window for security and abuse prevention.

7. Payment processing

When you purchase Sidekick, payment is handled by a third-party processor. We receive your billing email and a transaction identifier; we do not see or store your card details. Refund requests can be submitted through our .

8. Children's privacy

Sidekick is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the limited data tied to your license or account. Reach out via our and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the current version. Material changes will be communicated in the panel or by email where reasonable.
