Terms of Service

By installing or using Sidekick, you agree to these terms. They are written to be readable; if anything is unclear, reach out via our and we will explain in plain English.

1. Acceptance

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Sidekick After Effects extension and the related marketing website at sidekick-ae.com (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is provided by Script Sidekick ("Script Sidekick", "we", "us"). By installing, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Service.

2. License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Sidekick on machines you own or control, for your personal or internal business use, subject to these Terms and the license tier you purchased. You may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or share the Sidekick installer, license keys, or any portion of the panel's source.

3. Beta software

Sidekick is offered as a pre-release product during its beta period. The Service may contain bugs, may change without notice, and may occasionally produce incorrect output. You acknowledge that the Service is provided on an "as-is" basis during beta and that uptime, support response times, and feature stability are not guaranteed.

4. Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for keeping your AI provider API keys secure. Sidekick stores them locally on your machine; if your machine is compromised, your keys may be exposed.
  • You are responsible for charges incurred with the AI providers you connect. Sidekick does not bill you for AI usage; the providers do.
  • You are responsible for reviewing generated code before applying it to important work, and for keeping backups of your AE projects.
  • You will not use Sidekick to generate code intended to harm third parties, infringe intellectual property, or violate applicable laws.

5. Third-party AI providers

Sidekick relies on third-party AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) that you choose and connect via your own API keys. Their terms, pricing, and privacy policies apply to your use of their services. We are not responsible for outages, billing disputes, content moderation decisions, or other actions taken by those providers.

6. Intellectual property

The Sidekick software, branding, and marketing site are owned by Script Sidekick. Code, expressions, and scripts that the AI generates for you in response to your prompts are yours to use, subject to the terms of the underlying AI provider. You are responsible for ensuring that your prompts and the generated output do not infringe third-party rights.

7. Payment, refunds, and cancellation

If you purchase a paid license, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. Refund requests should be sent through our within 14 days of purchase, with a brief description of why you are requesting a refund. We review requests in good faith and aim to respond within five business days.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that AI-generated code will be correct, safe, or fit for your specific use case.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Script Sidekick will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred US dollars ($100) USD, whichever is greater.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Script Sidekick and its affiliates from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the panel. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution) will survive.

12. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in the panel or by email where reasonable. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Script Sidekick is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless local law requires otherwise.
